West End Arts District | 2023

Event Map

The Alameda West End Arts District asked me to create a map visual to promote their public art and events.

Formats:

Poster (12x17 in)

Banner (3x8 ft)

Postcard (4x6 in, double-sided)

Poster

I had to make three versions of the same design so I began with the poster.

12x17 inches

To start,

I took a screenshot of Alameda's West End on my map app and marked where each event was. Then I traced the main streets that were most important to highlight.

Next, I took it into Illustrator, traced the island and streets, and started designing.

I made sure to follow the West End Arts District’s brand identity.

Details

I carefully selected unique icons to represent each event on the map, aiming to elevate their visual impact. Drawing inspiration from the distinctive themes or eye-catching flyers of each event, I crafted icons that truly embody their individuality. Through this intentional approach, I ensured that the icons not only serve their functional purpose of marking the events but also become an expressive and memorable element of the map.

Banner

Once I finished the poster, I had everything I needed to create the banner and postcard.

I considered readability and resolution at each varying size and created new compositions of the same design for each format.

3x8 feet

Postcard

4x6 inches
