Organizational Concept Map

In a group of 5, we designed the intention and brand for a fictitious non-profit organization that engages in the field of water called Puddl. My main role was to design a concept map that visualizes relationships among key points and the impact our organization intends for.

Puddl’s Intention: How can we elevate humanity’s consciousness of their connection to water thereby creating solutions that can heal all life?

What Our Non-Profit Would Do

Our organization, called Puddl, focuses on upcycling clothing created from recycled water bottles and adorning them with original artwork from emerging artists. Through this initiative, we aim to generate funds to support providing clean water to communities that currently lack access to it.

Canaling Connections

A concept map depicts suggested relationships between complex concepts. To understand the network of ideas of our organization, I began by creating a flow chart of the key components and drawing arrows anywhere there’s a relationship.

Then I untangled the connections by reorganizing the keywords to figure out how to structure the network.

Splashing Around Ideas

With the network structure solved, I could start experimenting with the visual elements that support the map. Both ideas play with the concept of water puddles.

Water Bending

After researching and writing about each key point, I decided to go with the water surface framework. To keep this hefty amount of information orderly and comprehensible I created a grid system. Then I drew in the water surface texture around each cluster of text.

Puddl’s branding intends to be friendly and show support to artists and communities through water. To convey this message effectively, I aimed to construct a framework surrounding the map that would truly reflect these intentions.

Currents to Concepts

To complete the concept map, I included arrows accompanied by verbs to delineate the connections between different concepts.
